Dr. Gary C. Patterson was born and raised in the State of Oklahoma.  He entered the military at the age of seventeen and served twenty-three years working half his career as an Infantryman/Equal Opportunity-Race Relations Manager and the other half as a Chaplain.  While on active duty he earned an Associates Degree (AA) in Psychology from the University of Maryland and a Baccalaureate (BS) from the American Technological University in the field of Social Services and Rehabilitation with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. Mid-way in his military career he departed the Army to enter Grace Theological Seminary in Warsaw, Indiana and earned both the Master of Divinity (M. Div.) and Master of Theology (Th. M.) degrees majoring in Systematic Theology.  After this five years of schooling he returned to Army active duty and over the next ten years founded two chapel congregations and completed basic and advanced (two quarters each) training in Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). He served as a Chaplain Clinician at Brook Army Medical Center – Fort Sam Houston, Texas and the Methodist Healthcare System of San Antonio.  Pastor Patterson received the Doctor of Divinity (D. Div.) from the American Theological Seminary and is presently in pursuit of the Master Certified Coach (MCC) Certification with the International Coaching Federation. Dr. Patterson is also the Founding and Sr. Pastor of the Berean Spiritual Development Complex and Church in San Antonio, Texas and a Regional Church Starting Director for 100 + churches of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is duly aligned with the National Baptist Convention, USA, the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptist Convention.  He is married to the former and beautiful  Priscilla A. Taylor of Columbus, Georgia.

Dr. Jerry B. Madkins

Dr. Jerry B. Madkins was reared in East Texas. He attended Henderson public schools. Upon graduation from Hill Senior High School in Henderson, he then attended Prairie View A&M University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Political Science. He immediately joined the United States Army from Army ROTC at Prairie View where he reached the rank of Regular Army Major before he resigned his commission to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While in the U.S. Army, he was a Human Resource Management Officer for his entire military career. He served a two year tour at Ft. Wolters, Texas from 1971-1972; a two year tour with the lst Infantry Division (Forward) in Goeppingen, West Germany from 1973-1974; he then attended his Adjuntant General Corps Advanced Course at Ft. Benjamin, Harrison, Indiana in 1975; he then served a four year tour with FORSCOM Headquarters Command in Atlanta, Georgia from 1976-1980 and finally he served a two year tour with the ROTC Detachment at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia from 1981-1982. He also has obtained a Master’s of Arts Degree in Personnel Administration from Central Michigan University. He then pursued his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He is married to Andra Paulette Madkins and they have six children. He has also served as a pastor of three churches in West Virginia and Texas. He has taught business management courses at three universities: Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia; Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas and Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts. He has written several text books and published in several scholarly journals.

Dr. Earl Grant, Jr.

Pastor Earl Grant, Jr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Earl and Lena Grant.  He was educated in Bumpham Elementary and Bradley Junior and Senior High Schools where he displayed exceptional academic and leadership potential and graduated valedictorian.

After graduation from high school in 1975, Pastor Grant attended Southern Arkansas University on academic and Army ROTC scholarships.  He graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree in chemistry in 1979.  Upon graduation he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Army.  After various assignments, Pastor Grant was selected to attend graduate school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland where he received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1991.

Pastor Grant was ordained in the Gospel Ministry by the Damascus Missionary Baptist Church of San Antonio, Texas on July 18, 1987 under Pastor Earl Harris.  He served as an Associate Minister at Round Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland under Pastor Lionel Pointer, Jr. and completed the Follow-Through Evangelism Process.  Upon returning to Texas, he served as the Minister of Evangelism and Assistant Pastor for Administration responsible for curriculum development, implementation of the evangelism process and staff development at Resurrection Baptist Church in Schertz, Texas under Pastor Ray D. Brown, Sr. In 1994, he was stationed in Germany and was called to pastor the Pillar of Truth Missionary Baptist Church at Sembach Air Base.  Pastor Grant served as pastor from February 1995 through June 1997 and as the Director of Christian Education in the Congress of Christian Education of the National Baptist Association of Germany. After reassignment to Texas in 2003, he served as the Executive Pastor at Resurrection Baptist Church.  In 2007, Pastor Grant graduated from Rockbridge Seminary with a Master of Ministry Leadership degree.  In October 2007, he became the church planter/founder and Senior Pastor-Teacher of Covenant Community Church a purpose driven Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas.

Pastor Grant is a retired US Army officer and currently serves as Director, Quality Assurance and Education Branch, Clinical Research Division, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas.

Pastor Grant is married to the former Ivory V. Taylor of Bradley, Arkansas and the Grant’s have two sons, Earl Jerrard and Joseph Sherrod.

Dr. Ira E. Antonie

Ira E. Antoine, Jr. was born June 25, 1965 in New Iberia, Louisiana.  He is the product of two loving and caring parents.  He attended the public school system in New Iberia.  During his college years, he had a spiritual experience that changed his life forever.  In his second year of college, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord.  During his college career, he was an active member of the university’s gospel choir and campus bible study.  

In 1987, he began his preaching career.  He was licensed to the preaching ministry by Rev. Lloyd Joiner, Jr. of the Progressive Baptist Church of Lafayette, Louisiana.  At the Progressive Church, he served in the Men’s Ministry, Single’s Ministry and Men’s Choir.

After graduating from college, Dr. Antoine moved to Houston, Texas where he and wife Cynthia (Tillman) Antoine of 22 years currently reside.  He has worked for two NASA contractors as an engineer as well as a Business Analyst Consultant for a major Waste Management company in Houston.

Dr. Antoine’s greatest joy and passion has been his work for the Lord as a preacher, teacher, and pastor for over 20 years.  He has served as an Associate Minister, Assistant Pastor and Senior Pastor for the past 20 years.  He has preached in various settings in various cities in the United States.  His one number desire is to preach a word of hope, healing, and help for a hurting humanity.

Dr. Antoine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Along with serving as the senior pastor of the Minnehulla Church, Dr. Antoine also serves as a Congregational Specialist/Strategist with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He has served as President of the Board of Directors of Bay Area Charter School located in the southeast area of Houston, Texas.

His favorite and treasured scripture is 2 Corinthians 4:7 “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;”     

 

Rev.  MARVIN L. JOHNSON II, BS

Dean of Students & Admissions


Rev. Marvin Johnson was born on 5 August 1972 in California, but raised in Houston, Texas.  He graduated from Willowridge High school in 1990 and attended Wyoming Technical Institute, where he received a certification of training as a Mechanic.  He first began his military career as an enlisted soldier in 1993 as a 91B, Combat Medic. He advanced thru the enlisted ranks from Private E1 to the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) rank of Sergeant First Class E7.   In 2008 he traded in his NCO stripes of leadership for Officer Bars of responsibility and earned his commission into the Medical Service Corps through Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Ft Benning, Ga.   CPT Johnson holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Care Management from Touro University and is currently enrolled at Tyndale Theology Seminary where he is studying for his Masters of Divinity Degree.

 

Rev.  Johnson has held a variety of assignments to include: Line Medic, HHT, 1st squadron, 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment, Ft Polk, LA where he deployed for 6 months in support of the United Nations Mission in Haiti;  Battalion Aid Station NCO, HHD, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hi.; Squad leader, E. Company Academy Battalion, Ft Sam Houston, TX; S3 NCOIC, HHD, Academy Battalion, Ft Sam Houston, TX; Squad leader for, Evacuation platoon and Platoon Sergeant for Treatment and Headquarters Platoon, C. Company, 501st Forward Support Battalion, Friedburg, Germany where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF 1); and Platoon Sergeant, D Company 187th Medical Battalion, Ft Sam Houston, TX.  He served his first assignment as an Officer while deployed in support of (OIF 09-10) as the Brigade Medical Supply Officer (BMSO) for C Co 15th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, and later as the Executive Officer in the same company. He is currently serving as a Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC) Instructor for A Co 187 Medical Battalion at FT Sam Houston, TX

CPT Johnson’s military education includes the Warrior Leadership Course, the Air Assault Course, and the Army Retention Course, the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic, the Basic Trauma Life Support, the Basic Life Support Certificate, the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Support Cadre Training Course, Advance Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Officer Candidate School,  Basic Officer Leaders Course, the Medical Logistic Officer Course, the Support cadre training Course, Instructor Training Course  and the Captains Career Course (distance Learning)

CPT Johnson’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), the Army Achievement Award (3 OLC); the Good conduct Medal (4th Award), the National Defense Service Medal with a star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 3), the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 3), the United Nations Medal, the Army Superior Unit Award, Presidential Unit Citation Award.  He has earned the Combat Medical badge, the Combat Action badge, and the Air Assault Badge.

Rev. Johnson is married to the lovely Gerund and has two  beautiful children; a 16 yr old son, Ahmasi and a 3 yr old princess, Zion.
